SEO Term
Sitemap (XML)
A file listing your important URLs to help search engines discover and prioritize crawling them.
An XML sitemap is a discovery aid, not a ranking booster — it helps Google find deep or newly published pages faster, which matters most on large or poorly linked sites. Only include canonical, indexable URLs that return 200: listing redirected, noindexed, or 404 pages sends mixed signals and erodes Google's trust in the file. Reference it from robots.txt and submit it in Search Console, and let your CMS keep the lastmod dates honest so recrawls target what actually changed.
